Binocular Vision
What does binocular vision mean?
Binocular vision is the ability for our two eyes to join forces and give us one clear, three dimensional image. Our eyes’ focus will move further apart from one another (diverge) to see far away objects and move closer together (converge) to see things up close.

Symptoms of Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD)
- Double vision
- Headaches
- Eye strain
- Fluctuating vision
- Difficulty following objects or words
Diagnosis of BVD
- Testing eye alignment at distance and near
- Testing nearest point eyes can converge
- Measuring the ranges of divergence and convergence
- Measuring the eyes’ ability to refocus through different lenses
- Testing the eyes’ ability switch between divergence and convergence

Treatment of BVD
- Specialized glasses prescription
- Bifocal lenses
- Prism lenses
- Home eye exercises
- Vision therapy program
Dr. Theroux’s binocular vision evaluations also assess for focusing disorders and eye movement disorders. We recommend starting with a full eye exam to address any need for glasses and to rule out other causes of symptoms.
